Experience Summer at DCD

Location: Dedham Country Day Camp – Dedham, MA
Reports To: DCDC Camp Director & Horizons Director
Position Type: Seasonal (Summer)

Dedham Country Day Camp (DCDC) and Horizons are seeking a knowledgeable, organized, and safety-focused Pool Director to oversee aquatic operations for both DCDC and Horizons programs. The Pool Director plays a critical leadership role in managing lifeguard teams, coordinating swim instruction, and ensuring a safe and positive swim experience for all campers.

Key Duties:

• Swim Instruction Coordination: 
  • Create and manage swim lesson schedules for DCDC campers and Horizons Students
  • Assist with pre- and post-session swim testing for both DCDC and Horizons
  • Track camper progress and support lifeguards with weekly swim report cards
  • Review and assist with end-of-season report cards for Horizons
  • Administer the Deep End Test to DCDC campers and Horizons students; Ensure all lifeguards are using the same criteria for passing the test. 
• Staff Supervision & Support: 
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to all lifeguards
  • Ensure lifeguard coverage at DCDC extended day 

• Safety & Communication: 
  • Explain and enforce pool rules for all groups (DCDC and Horizons)
  • Ensure all safety protocols and emergency procedures are followed
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for pool-related matters
  • Provide regular updates to camp and horizons directors 
• Team Leadership: 
  • Attend staff training meetings
  • Conduct weekly check-ins with lifeguards
  • Schedule lunch breaks for all lifeguards
  • Create a schedule for lifeguards including: swim lessons, guarding and breaks.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as needed during the season

Strong Candidates will have:

• Must be 21+  years old by the start of camp and hold a Current Lifeguard Certification (American Red Cross or equivalent)
• CPR/AED and First Aid certified
• Experience in a management or supervisory position for at  least six weeks
• Strong leadership and organizational skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with multiple camp teams
• Passion for working with children in a summer camp setting
• Strong organizational and planning skills
• Ability to manage a team

Salary Range – $25.00/hour-$30.00/hour

Dedham Country Day Camp and Horizons are seeking responsible, energetic, and safety-minded individuals to serve as Lifeguards for our summer camp programs. The lifeguard will be responsible for ensuring the safety of campers and staff in and around the pool, as well as teaching swim lessons to campers ages 3-14 years old. Must be at least 16 years old and have a current Lifeguard Certification by the start of camp.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise all pool activities to ensure camper safety and enforce pool rules at all times.
• Provide attentive, proactive lifeguard coverage during all swim periods.
• Teach and assist with swim lessons following camp and program guidelines.
• Assess swimmers’ skill levels and track their progress throughout the summer. Perform deep end tests.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and positive aquatic environment.
• Respond quickly and effectively to all emergencies or safety concerns.
• Perform daily safety checks of pool equipment and report any issues to the Aquatics Director.
• Support campers with encouragement and positive engagement during swim activities.
• Attend all required staff meetings and pre-camp training sessions.
• SIgn up for Extended Day Coverage (this is additional pay)

Strong Candidates will have:

• Must be 16 years of age or older by the start of camp.
• Must hold a current Lifeguard Certification (American Red Cross or equivalent).
• CPR/AED and First Aid certifications strongly preferred.
• Previous lifeguarding or swim instruction experience preferred, but not required.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Enjoy working with children and being part of a camp community.

Salary Range – $15.00/hour-$29.00/hour
