This week, students in grades K-5 decorated the DCD Wish Tree, the beautiful evergreen overlooking our front playing fields. Each class began a mindfulness lesson by reading The Wish Tree by Kyo Maclear, the story of a boy and his sled on a quest for a wish tree, offering acts of kindness along the way. Students were then invited to create their own personal wishes of community and goodwill to be tied to the DCD Wish Tree for all to see. A few wishes asked for safety, to protect the environment, and for world peace. DCD’s Mindfulness program focuses on the social and emotional well-being of students, and their wishes remind us to share kindness in big and small ways.
