Dedham Country Day’s Hawk Scholars have landed! Liam Kopitke of West Roxbury, Giuliana Oh of Walpole, Keira Acevedo of Dedham, and Ella Erickson of Norfolk joined Dedham Country Day’s middle school this fall as the first recipients of the school’s Hawk Scholarship, a merit-based award for students entering grades 6-8. This year is the inaugural year for the scholarship, named for the school’s mascot, the Hawk. The award recognizes highly motivated middle-school student applicants who embody the values of DCD’s mission.
Liam, joining the class of 2022, is off to a great start in the sixth grade. He’s excited about the spork he’s making in his ‘Kitchen Tools’ woodworking class and about studying Latin for the first time. “It’s a really cool and interesting language, and I’m glad I have the chance to take it.”
Giuliana, joining the class of 2022, is enjoying DCD’s size, her academic classes and the cool arts classes she gets to take. She seems to really appreciate her new school community, commenting, “I love that the teachers and students here are so open-minded.”
Keira, joining the class of 2021, has taken to field on DCD’s soccer team and, like her fellow Hawk scholars, is very excited about the different arts classes she is enrolled in this term. When asked what’s different about DCD, she says “I’m really being challenged here. The work I am doing feels like it has a real purpose!”
Ella, joining the class of 2022, is excited about her new school. When asked how things are going at DCD, she says, “so far, I love the people and sports!” This fall, Ella is playing field hockey.
We are so excited to welcome this first group of Hawk Scholars to the DCD nest and can’t wait to see how they contribute to DCD’s vibrant learning community. To find out more about the Hawk Scholarship, visit www.dedhamcountryday.org/Hawkscholarship.
