Sponsored by the DCD Diversity Committee, the entire DCD parent community comes together to engage in dialogue about the importance of having an inclusive community where everyone feels welcome. This is a "don't-miss" event!
A school-wide community service day is held in honor of MLK Jr. Students participate in a variety of service projects. The day begins with an all-school assembly in the Lowell Center, where students hear from a guest speaker and then break out into groups to work on projects. Students return together at the end of the day to share their project work. 8:15 - 8:50 will be the opening assembly, with some student presentations followed by David Coleman making some relevant music 8:50 - 10:50 is the time set aside for service project work. During this block, it makes sense to have a recess/break and snack time at a convenient time 10:50 - 11:20 will be the closing assembly, in which each grade/group will report on what they did for their project 11:20 - 12:20 is class time until the end of the day.
The DCD vans will depart with kindergarten and 8th graders for Nobles skating rink at 9:30 am and return for 11:30 am lunch. Ice time will be from 10:00 - 11:00 am. Be sure to pack your snow gear, skates and helmet!
The PA will host this special Book Club meeting and conversation as a follow up to the CommUNITY evening. Any parents, faculty, or staff who would like to read Claude Steele's book, Whistling Vivaldi, are invited to join the conversation.
