My favorite thing about DCD is the freedom to create your own pathways and explorations within the curriculum and engage in responsive teaching with the students.
I began playing piano as a young child and then started the saxophone in grade 6. I began doubling on the clarinet and flute in college and graduate school, as well as doing an extensive music education degree that also involved learning to play all the instruments and also teach all of the instruments to students. I perform professionally in music theater pit orchestras, jazz bands, rock bands, and classical orchestras. I believe every student has music inside of them and I love teaching them to find that music, express it, and ultimately incorporate it into a balanced lifestyle as a lifelong learner. Music is a wonderful medium to learn life skills such as resilience, risk taking, public speaking/performance, and teamwork in a positive and supportive environment!
