Lower school students showcased their talents at the annual Visual and Performing Arts Assembly on March 11.
Artwork completed during the year in various mediums, including drawing and ceramics, was on display in the Lowell Center and made a colorful backdrop to the musical and art presentations.
The Lower School Band made up of students in grades 3 and 4 started off the assembly with a performance of “Yankee Doodle” and two other numbers. The Chamber Ensemble performed pieces by Beethoven and John Willliams.
Students in grade 3 formed a xylophone ensemble for “Balafon,” and grades 1 and 2 performed three numbers on the recorder, including the traditional “Hot Cross Buns” and “Merrily We Roll Along.” The Chorus closed the assembly with a performance of “We’re all in this together.”
Mr. Clifford and selected students presented woodworking projects along with selected students of Mr. Coakley who presented projects in the visual arts.
Whether learning to play an instrument or shape a ceramic pot, students have so many opportunities at DCD to express themselves creatively.
