On Monday, November 20, DCD donated 24 Thanksgiving baskets complete with all the fixings for a wonderful holiday meal for families in need of some extra help at this time of year. Filling these baskets is a month-long project organized by the Middle School Student Outreach Committee, and it involves the entire DCD community-students, parents, and teachers. Everyone donates an item, including pies, canned goods, and beverages, along with homemade apple bread baked by our first and second graders.

DCD middle school students exercised their muscles as they collected all the baskets from around the school and corralled them into the front lobby where fresh pies and breads were added as the finishing touch.  The last step in the process was to load all 24 baskets into the vans for distribution to local families through the Dedham Youth Commission.
Because we sometimes take for granted our own good fortune, seeing these baskets filled to the brim with food and other necessities is a good reminder to give thanks for what we have and to help others around us who may be in need.
