My name is Madison Schneier. I am Jewish and I am American. Being Jewish is important to me because it allows me to celebrate our past, and the challenges my ancestors had to face in order to bring the world to where it is now. For example, being slaves in Egypt, and being freed to the war in Israel currently. Additionally, being able to celebrate Jewish holidays during a war shows that Israel and Jewish people around the world are not giving up. It also brings my family, community and Jewish people around the world together, by being able to connect and celebrate our holidays and past.
My favorite family tradition is on me and my sister, Lexie’s birthdays. The night before our birthdays when we are sleeping, my dad fills our room with different colored balloons. It’s a fun way to start celebrating our birthdays by waking up and seeing the balloons, and then opening presents.
My favorite hobbies are gymnastics and reading. I love gymnastics because I get to see my friends from my old school that do gymnastics, and get to meet new people on our teams. I also love it because I love being able to do flips, and participate in competitions against other teams and gyms. I have been doing gymnastics for over 10 years. I love reading because it transports your mind to a different world depending on what you are reading. For example, when I am reading Harry Potter or Percy Jackson, it transports my mind to the wizarding world or camp Half-Blood. That is why I love reading and gymnastics.
