My name is Isabella Wright. A part of my identity that’s important to me is being Afro/Caribbean. Being Afro/Caribbean is important to me because if I was not I would just feel plain. The food and the culture would be plain and mine isn’t. One Jamaican dish I love is fried dumplings. The texture is so soft. I love how my grandma makes it with chicken. The smell of the chicken is hard to explain. I would say it smells like something fried. When we go on road trips my grandma makes the dumplings with fried chicken. I’m Jamaican/ American but most people call it Jamerican, just for the fun of it.

The people in my family are loud but there are perks to being loud, sometimes. The perks of being loud are simple— when you want to be heard, you definitely will be heard. One thing that I wish didn’t happen is every time I’m in the store with my Dad he always talks loudly. My family tradition is when opening presents we say “Ohh, ahh.” No matter how big or small the gift is. We always give anyone in the family the acknowledgment they want. My family is so funny, and it’s a great way to bond with them. I love everyone in my family, whether they are physically here with me or not.
