Community service is woven throughout the student experience at every grade level at DCD, and in the middle school, our service learning program gives students the opportunity to create and carry out their own projects, sharing their time and talents on campus and with local organizations during five dedicated community service afternoons.
This past Friday, service learning kicked off for the year! Students rolled up their sleeves, gave back, made a meaningful impact, and, of course, had a wonderful time along the way. Here’s a sampling of what they were up to:
- Math Tutor Training: Practicing engaging math games and activities that middle school students can use while tutoring to build math fluency, strengthen skills, and make learning fun.
- Organizing and displaying clothing items for the Thrift Shop of Boston
- Sharing the joy of singing, dancing, telling jokes, and arts and crafts with residents at the Sunrise Senior Center in Norwood
- Organizing and shelving books in the newly renovated library
- Cleaning up around the school
- Making signs, hair ties and glow bottles for Friday Night Lights
- Knitting for Circle of Hope
- Playing with younger students at Extended Day
