Dedham Country Day School eighth grader Bella Joseph will experience what it’s like to play at Carnegie Hall this February! Competing in the Crescendo International Competition for the state of Massachusetts back on November 20, 2016, Bella received First Place Honors for her performance of the classical piece Etude, Op. 60, No. 7 (Matteo Carcassi), opening up the opportunity to play with other regional winners at the iconic New York City venue.

Performing solo, Bella will play this same piece at the International Competition Winner’s Recital at Carnegie Hall on February 19, part of a series of concerts for the winners of First and Second Place Honors at the regional level. Auditions for the competition were held for young musicians in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, California, Canada, Europe, and Asia.

During a recent all-school assembly, Bella performed the winning piece before the entire school community. Head of School Allison Webster was so taken with her playing that she asked Bella to do an impromptu performance for a group of campus visitors that same day.

Bella has been playing the guitar for six years and enjoys playing all kinds of musical genres from classical pieces to traditional rock. When not performing classical etudes, Bella can be heard playing lead guitar in “87,” a local rock band. Click here to listen to this young virtuoso musician!
