Every student from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8 contributed items to Dedham Country Day School’s annual Thanksgiving Basket Food Drive, together filling more than 20 large bins containing all the fixings for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, including pies and homemade bread.

DCD donated the food baskets to the Dedham Youth Commission (DYC) for distribution to local families. DYC staff and volunteers Robert Blaney, Greg Cabral, Paul Twomey, and Linda Hurley joined DCD Community Outreach Faculty Co-Chair Jim Pinola and parent volunteers Julie O’Rourke and Jan O’Connell in helping Middle School students load all the food items into a van for delivery to families.
The food drive is just one of many DCD community service projects that are ongoing throughout the year. Students in every grade participate in some type of age-appropriate community outreach projects during the year, and in Middle School, students take the lead in developing and carrying out their own projects.
