With a record-breaking 195 runners in grades first through eighth, the annual DCD Fun Run was a triumph of fun, sweat, and service! As well as being a favorite community event, this year’s Fun Run has also managed to raise and donate nearly $1500 (another record!) to the Animal Rescue League (ARL) of Dedham!
This donation stands as the capstone to the fourth grade’s year-long service work for the ARL. Earlier in the year, fourth-grade students learned about the role of animal shelters in general, and the specific work of the ARL. In the winter, they collected towels and blankets from the DCD community to donate to the Animal Rescue League in Dedham, putting their lessons to work in order to make a meaningful difference in the lives of these animals.
“We’ve supported the ARL for many years,” says fourth-grade teacher Michelle Faithfull, “and we are so happy to host this great school-wide event after our modified Covid Fun Run last year.” Throughout the process, the fourth-grade student body has played an instrumental role in planning and executing all aspects of this event, from spreading word, making signs, distributing water bottles, and answering questions at the morning assembly.
Thanks to the entire fourth grade, along with class teachers Kelly Kennedy and Michelle Faithfull, for their incredible effort in organizing this amazing event!
