April 7 & 8, 2022
Head of School Welcome
Thank you for joining us and sharing in the 2022 DCD Grandparent and Special Friend Experience!
The daily news is filled with the large-scale issues in our world today, from the global pandemic and Ukraine crisis to national discord. In the face of so many challenges, I can think of no better moment to build our extended DCD community and create a loving network of caring adults around each of DCD’s children. I know your life experiences provide a hopeful outlook, since you have the ability to see the long arc of how challenges are faced, navigated, and managed, and share that perspective with children.
Whether you are a grandparent or a special friend, I’m so grateful for the relationships our students have with you, the grandparents and loving adults in their lives, who center and ground them. When grandparents and special friends can participate in their life at school, and share your enthusiasm for all students are learning and doing in our classrooms and fields, it helps to amplify their sense of pride and accomplishment in their work.
I look forward to welcoming you back to DCD and I know our students will love sharing their school with you. Whether this is your first visit to campus or a return after many years of participation, we look forward to all coming together in person again. For those of you who wish you could be at DCD and are unable to join the in-person event, we also look forward to connecting with you and sharing the exciting things that are happening at school through a virtual program.
Have fun!

Schedule of Events
We are thrilled to invite you to join us for this year’s DCD Grandparents’ & Special Friends’ Event, a two-part experience on Thursday evening, April 7 and Friday morning, April 8. The pandemic has challenged us to reimagine all of DCD’s signature events, and this year’s Grandparents’ & Special Friends’ Day is no exception! The wellbeing of the entire DCD community, including our most special guests, remains our top priority and, therefore, this year’s event will look a bit different than years past.

Virtual Evening
On Thursday evening, April 7, we will gather together virtually (over Zoom). You will have the opportunity to hear from DCD Head of School Allison Webster, hear about the strategic direction of the school as we look towards DCD’s bright future, and get a glimpse into some of the wonderful projects and activities going on inside DCD’s classrooms, on the stage and on the athletic fields.

8:15 AM – 8:45 AM
Check-In and Reception at DCD
On Friday morning, April 8, we are thrilled to welcome grandparents and special friends to campus for the first time since the 2019 Grandparents’ & Special Friends’ Day! We invite you to join us for a morning reception in DCD’s Rand Gym, where you will be joined by other grandparents and special friends for coffee and refreshments. Be sure to check out DCD’s school store, which will be fully stocked with our favorite gear!
8:45 AM – 10:00 AM
Open House Campus Visit
Following the reception, you’re on your way! Due to the challenges of the pandemic, and keeping the safety of our entire community our top priority, we are unable to pack all of our grandparents and special friends into DCD’s classrooms. This year, you will have the opportunity to tour the campus and take a quick peek inside DCD’s classrooms in an “open house-style” format, and experience the wonder that is DCD!
