Head of School Nick Thacher is one of seven individuals being honored at the Horizons 50th anniversary gala on Saturday, March 2.

The evening, a biennial benefit for the Horizons Student Enrichment Program at New Canaan Country School, will be hosted by Brian Williams, anchor of NBC Nightly News, who is known for his commitment to education. More than 400 people are expected to attend the event, which will take place at the Greenwich Hyatt Regency.

Nick Thacher is a Horizons national board member and a former head of NCCS. Horizons was founded in 1964 at NCCS by its late headmaster George Stevens. The program has grown over the past 50 years to include sites around the country, including at Dedham Country Day School, where Nick has served as Head of School since 2005.

Horizons at Dedham Country Day School, founded in 2009, is the first Horizons program to open in Massachusetts. Through its six-week summer program, Horizons at DCD serves disadvanted students from Dedham and the Boston area in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 4 by providing them with educational support and cultural enrichment opportunities. It now also offers year-round tutoring and expects to eventually grow to 160 students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8.

Brian Williams will also be a special guest at the Horizons at DCD 5th anniversary celebration on April 27.
