The Arts for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten

In the Pre-K and Kindergarten woodshop experience, children learn very basic woodworking skills as they become familiar with the woodshop and its tools. Students visit the woodshop weekly for activities.

Visual Arts

Artistic self-expression is woven into the daily routines of the homeroom. Students work in a variety of media to develop the skills and vocabulary to create and discuss art. Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten art activities take place in both the homerooms, as well as in the art studio.

Through singing, exploring musical themes and concepts, and moving rhythmically, children gain the aural, visual, and physical skills to explore and develop musical skills. Weekly visits to the music room incorporate a wide range of teaching models and musical experiences.

Once a year, each class presents to the school an original theatrical play written expressly for them by DCD’s drama teacher. Attention is given to each member of the cast, and roles are tailored to the ability of the group. This project allows each child to expand his or her creative skills within the structure and support of the larger group.
