The Grade 7 Class Play was an uproarious and mysterious tale of treasure hunts, stolen jewels, imposters, and collaboration! Set in an old English castle, the Grade 7 class play follows the story of a large cast of characters who value truth over lies, doing the right thing, and working together to help others.
Following the performance, Head of School Allison Webster shared what a big week it’s been for Ms. Sidoli, emphasizing that along with Mr. Edie, Ms. Sidoli ran the Smooth Talk evening for the eighth grade, and two seventh grade plays! She continued by saying, “we have such amazing faculty and staff here at DCD, and Ms. Sidoli is one example of the incredible work that we have from our faculty and staff!”
Ms. Webster went on to express how important it is to be comfortable with public speaking, and— that it’s just as important to know how to do “good public listening”. She emphasized how impressed she was with our student audience who are learning to be such good listeners! Ms. Webster then addressed the seventh grade students, “what a fabulous, complex play, with so much coming and going, and so many lines!” She continued, “As I was watching, I was thinking about an article I read this week by Adam Grant in the New York Times, about how bad we are at predicting the future. The concept was— whatever you think is going to happen next, you are probably wrong.” She went on to share that one of the things that really struck her was what a bad job we do as humans, thinking about how well we’ll adapt in the future. “Regarding your play, if someone told you that you were going to get up on stage, work as a group, learn all of your lines, and entertain an audience for two performances, it may be that you would underestimate how well you would adapt to that challenge. So bottle this up as a little piece of confidence, because you just did it! The hard thing you set out to do, you just did beautifully, and I am very proud of all of you!”
Congratulations and thanks to all of our sensational seventh grade performers!
