Eighth graders left their Facing History and Ourselves class on Friday, April 20, to walk out of school in protest of gun violence and to mark the 19th anniversary of the Columbine massacre. Their action was part of the National School Walkout scheduled for 10:00 a.m. in schools across the country.

One of their Facing History teachers, Rob Thacher, commented, “they are doing the work the class was meant to teach, by choosing to participate.” Students, who organized the action themselves, stood outside the school for 13 minutes of silence to honor each of the 12 students and one teacher who were gunned down in the national tragedy.
