This past Friday morning, Mr. Thacher’s Grade 8 English class took to the back fields for a game of Blitzball, a game invented by the character “Finny” in John Knowles’ “A Separate Peace”, the classic novel that Grade 8 students read over summer break. As a celebratory wrap of class discussions, students proposed their very own game of Blitzball to Mr. Thacher, who agreed this was the perfect way to complete their studies of the 1950’s classic!
Together with Mr. Thacher, the class made a running list of rules and then the game began!
With great camaraderie from all, it was a very fun break from indoor studies, and a refreshing class bonding experience. It is these special moments with incredible teachers like Mr. Thacher that DCD students experience the great joys of learning, while having the opportunity to take on challenges and safely push boundaries in supportive and encouraging spaces!
