The Rand Gym was bursting with excitement last Friday morning at Assembly, as Head of School Allison Webster kicked things off by introducing our Heads of School for the Day, Maxine Worth (Pre-K) and Brody Dlugasch (Grade 4), who would be helping to run the school day. Brody then shared the special snack that they selected for students—cookies and clementines!

Following this fun update, Ms. Kaelin and Ms. McFarland presented the 2024-25 Student Council Members, who shared their accomplishments as a recap of the fun events that the Council planned and orchestrated from the school year!

Head of School Allison Webster then took the stage to talk about the presentation of special awards that was to follow, emphasizing to the student audience, “Awards are wonderful for two reasons—they give us a chance to really celebrate people’s achievements, and, awards let us lift up hard work and accomplishment—something we all pursue and experience in our own area!” She went on to express how proud she was of this year’s award winners.

Select DCD students were then recognized for their notable achievements! Ms. Andrade-de León first presented DCD’s inaugural Global Seal of Biliteracy recipients—a very exciting first ever award category at DCD. The Global Seal of Biliteracy is an internationally recognized certification that verifies an individual’s proficiency in two or more languages through standardized testing. In the United States, English must be one of the certified languages. Ms. Andrade-de León went on to explain that the Global Seal of Biliteracy is open to all ages and grade levels, and offers three levels of recognition: Functional Fluency, Working Fluency, and Professional Fluency. To earn the Seal, candidates must provide documentation demonstrating their language abilities in both languages. Ms. Andrade-de León shared that Global Seal recipients have included middle school, high school, university students, and adults, where she then emphasized just how remarkable our middle school recipients are for receiving these impressive certifications!

Mr. Harrington then presented awards to the top three scorers in grades 6 and 7 for the New England Math League (NEML), and Ms. Hathaway presented this year’s Latin awards.

Congratulations to all!
