The woodshop is an exciting and creative space for all DCD students—even our youngest ones in pre-kindergarten! While they work on their sculpted tree project, these little woodworkers are also learning to navigate this big space independently and responsibly.

Learning “shop habits” is an essential part of growing in the DCD woodshop. For pre-K students, following safety rules and routines—like putting on their goggles and cleaning up after themselves—has become second nature. With each project, they build foundational woodworking skills, learning to use hand tools like the coping saw, hand drill, and bench vise to bring their creations to life.

An observer in the shop during pre-K class time would be in awe of these goggled young students working away on their projects—planning, drilling, and sawing with determination and deep concentration!

With Ms. Levi’s focus on process and encouraging individual creativity, pre-k students are honing skills that will extend way beyond the walls of the DCD woodshop.
