Rising Fourth Graders are required to do a three-day summer business project. The goals of this project are to execute long-term planning and problem solving skills, and to raise funds for a charity of each child’s choice.

Students are responsible for deciding what kind of business, purchasing and recording the price of materials, manufacturing a product or service, and managing sales. Each child kept a journal to record the highlights and challenges of running a business. Finally, students practiced public speaking skills when presenting the project to classmates and at an assembly.

This year there was a variety of businesses including: Summer Story Club, Cupcake Catering, Senior Sitting, Treats for Troops, and several lemonade and frozen treat stands. Organizations such as The Animal Rescue League of Dedham, St. Jude’s Hospital, Guiding Eyes, World Wildlife Fund, and the Arthritis Foundation were beneficiaries.
