DCD’s Geography Bee took place Thursday, January 16, with students in Grades 4 through 8 vying for first place and the chance to go on to the statewide competition in the spring.

This year’s contest came down to the wire with the two finalists competing against each other in an extended final round. DCD Middle School Head Nate Buffum had to find additional questions to ask finalists Nate Felix, a fifth-grader, and Evan Michaeli, an eighth-grader who was the runner-up last year. After several rounds of questions where they came out even, Evan finally emerged the winner.

Sponsored by National Geographic, Bee contests take place all over the country. After winning their school’s Bee, students take an online test to qualify for the state-level competition among the top one hundred students. The winners of those contests go on to the national competition in Washington, D.C.
