Middle school students showed off a range of artistic talents at two events highlighting the visual and performing arts on May 16 and 17.
On Monday evening, the audience was treated to performances by the chorus, band, chamber ensemble and Let’s Dance students. They were joined on Tuesday morning at an all-school assembly by visual artists who discussed their work in painting, photography, needlepoint, woodworking and the digital arts.
Students can choose from more than 40 art electives in middle school, taking nine arts classes each year, three each term. Director of Arts Kevin Coakley recognized students who had entered work to SISAL, the annual juried exhibition sponsored by the Small Independent School Art League, including nine who had received awards.
Jane Rothwell presented the literary annual, Dream Create Discover, and recognized the students whose work appeared on the front and back covers of the magazine.
The choral performance with its 60s vibe featured a surprise appearance on stage by middle school teacher Rick Edie.
