Thursday’s spelling bee during morning assembly was a notable one for sure! Ten contestants, two representatives each from grades 4 through 8, displayed their spelling prowess in front of the entire school. The contestants earned their spots on the bee stage after scoring highest on a spelling test administered in each class.

Mr. Thacher, known for his love of words, presided over his final DCD Bee before he retires in June. Fourth grader Zobia Imam and fifth grader Luke Hotra were the final two contestants left standing after many rounds. Luke won the final challenge round with his correct spelling of “loathe.”

Two-time former champion Charlie Volpe, who had made it to the finals every year for four straight years, was the last out before the final round this year.
