Dedham Country Day School (DCD) seeks an Extended Day Program Teacher to join the robust faculty and staff in our pre-kindergarten to grade 8 community for the 2024-25 school year.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Play and supervise children (primarily PK – grade 5) both indoors and outdoors 
  • Engage with children with enthusiasm and energy, and share their special interests 
  • Manage attendance and dismissal processes for all EDP students, including those registered for after-school enrichment programming
  • Work five days a week during EDP hours: Monday – Thursday, 3:00 – 6:00 pm and Friday 12:30 – 5:30 pm (qualified candidates interested in reduced hours will be considered)

 

Strong candidates will have:

  • A minimum of three years experience working with children; bachelor’s degree preferred 
  • A desire to play and interact with children
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt easily to the needs of the students and the program
  • Strong communication skills, initiative and the capacity to independently identify and solve problems 
  • Strong self-motivation and reliability
  • An interest in early elementary or elementary education is a plus

Dedham Country Day School (DCD) seeks a well-qualified full-time in-house substitute teacher to join the robust faculty in our Pre-Kindergarten to grade 8 community for the 2024-25 school year. This role will provide in-person classroom coverage for faculty absences, as well as classroom support.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide engaging instruction and implementation of lesson plans for children in grades PK – 8 in a variety of classroom settings, teaching a range of subjects
  • Promote and support each child’s physical, social, emotional and academic growth 
  • Implement effective and respectful classroom management
  • Communicate with faculty regarding classroom experiences and engagements 
  • Help faculty to maintain classroom libraries, bulletin boards and instructional materials 
  • Provide weekly coverage for recess and lunch duties 
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required

 

Strong candidates will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree with experience teaching or working with elementary and/or middle school age students
  • A history of adaptability, responsibility and flexibility with a strong work ethic
  • Strong belief in a child-centered and developmentally-appropriate environment
  • Comfort with technology and an openness to integrate academic technology into the classroom
  • An eagerness to embrace multicultural perspectives with experience building an inclusive environment and an awareness of anti-bias teaching practices

  • Teach core subjects (literacy, mathematics, social studies) using the Reading and Writing Workshop Method and TERC: Investigations in Numbers, Data and Space math curriculum 
  • Promote the social and emotional growth of students 
  • Utilize both Responsive Classroom and Open Circle practices in managing the classroom
  • Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies to enhance teaching and learning in the classroom 
  • Provide ongoing communication with parents and compose formal comments on each student at the conclusion of each term
  • Collaborate with lower school faculty on curricular and cultural initiatives
  • Participate in learning team meetings, division meetings, weekly faculty/staff meetings, and professional development opportunities
  • Take part in the school community as a contributing member, through committee work and weekly recess and lunch duties

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, psychology or child development with a master’s degree in education preferred

Dedham Country Day School (DCD) seeks a well-qualified full-time Learning Specialist to join the robust faculty in our Pre-Kindergarten to grade 8 community for the 2024-25 school year. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate classroom reading instruction with lower school students (grades 4-5) and lead additional small group reading sessions with at-risk readers (grades 4-5)
  • Provide specialized small group lower school mathematics and support students with math learning
  • Accurately monitor students’ progress and growth, maintaining records of students’ performance and reading development; administer assessments as needed
  • Support students’ study skills, organization and writing skills in and outside of the classroom 
  • Communicate on a regular basis with families and compose formal individualized written reports on student progress at the conclusion of each term
  • Consult with faculty to develop and manage academic programming to support students with a variety of learning needs and make recommendations for possible interventions
  • Participate in parent/teacher conferences twice a year, team meetings for grades and divisions, regular faculty/staff meetings, and professional development opportunities
  • Take part in the school community as a contributing member, through committee work, school events, professional development opportunities, etc.
  • Provide coverage for weekly recess and lunch duties

 

Strong candidates will have:

  • Experience working with students with learning needs
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Knowledge of and/or training in reading programs, such as Orton-Gillingham, RAVE-O, Wilson, etc. 
  • Knowledge of assessments, such as DIBELS, WRMT, DRA, etc.
  • Experience building an inclusive environment and an awareness of anti-bias teaching practices
  • A openness to integrate academic technology into the classroom experience
  • A willingness to be part of a collaborative team
