Physical education and team sports are valued for their health benefits—and the lessons they offer in teamwork, sportsmanship, skill development, strategy, and leadership. We believe in the importance of sportsmanship and healthy competition, and we emphasize the values of discipline, focus, teamwork, and love of the game. Winning feels good—and so does giving one's best.
and Lower School
programs emphasize fundamental skills and rules of the game, exposing children to a wide variety of experiences through team activities and small-group instruction. Through daily play and physical education class several days each week, children improve motor skills, fitness, and cognitive function. Children in Fourth and Fifth Grades play interscholastic soccer and field hockey.
All Middle School students participate in an interscholastic sport during every season. With two gyms, four playing fields, school-owned vans for travel, and a cohort of dedicated coaches, DCD students enjoy practicing and competing in eleven different sports throughout the year.
