We are delighted to announce the launch of a Planned Giving program at DCD. Planned gifts are an attractive way to support DCD while providing donors with financial flexibility and potential tax benefits.

This program will recognize and honor individuals who have made provisions for DCD in their estate plans and inspire others to take advantage of these flexible strategies to support the school. Through a planned gift, you can create a lasting legacy at DCD and have an impact on the young students of the future.

A Lasting Legacy

I had a wonderful experience at DCD. As a student, some of my great memories include our play–H.M.S. Pinafore, our teacher–Mrs. Dietsch, and the Olympics–winning a silver cup! As president of the Board of Trustees, I had the pleasure of working with Everett Ladd and hiring Harry Herrick. My wife Joan and I watched our three children Rafe ’62, Vee ’65, and Amy ’68 thrive while they attended DCD. We were fortunate to return as grandparents to visit Charlotte ’98 and Dorothy ’04 MacAusland on Grandparents’ Day.

Joan and I give to the Charlotte Lowell Scholarship Fund, established in 1927 by my mother, Charlotte Loring Lowell, who attended The Norfolk School, in memory of my sister Charlotte Lowell, who died while a student at The Hewins School, to provide financial aid to deserving students. By including DCD in my will, we hope this fund will continue to grow and support future generations.

—Ralph Lowell Jr. ’35

Common Forms of Planned Giving

A bequest is made through a provision in a donor’s will or trust and can be easily set up with the assistance of an attorney. A bequest may be a specific amount or a percentage of an estate.
  • Life Income Gifts

Life income gifts can provide financial security for you or a loved one with the benefit of a charitable income tax deduction and possible estate tax savings, and at the same time provide major assistance to DCD.
  • Charitable Lead Trusts

Charitable lead trusts can be designed to provide income payments to DCD until a term ends, when the remaining assets are transferred to your beneficiaries.
