Middle School students learn to focus on the creative process
In the age of technology, when results are expected in minutes, children at DCD gain a balanced perspective and respect for the artistic process by working on projects that may take months to complete. DCD Middle School students study the arts daily, in courses ranging from musical theater to furniture making to building virtual worlds on computer.
The Middle School arts program gives students an extensive range of choices in course selection. Students take three arts courses each term for a total of nine each year. Required courses in each discipline ensure an appropriate balance among the different offerings in music, drama, woodworking, and the visual arts. For their remaining electives, students may choose from more than 40 courses each year.
All students participate in an original class play by either performing or designing sets. Additional performance opportunities include chorus, band, chamber ensemble, jazz dance, and choreography.
