Additional Information

DCDC Staff

Lisa Kaplan, Director

Lisa joined Dedham Country Day Camp in 2010 as the Sports Specialist, and quickly became an essential member of the DCD Camp Staff. In addition to her role as camp director, Lisa is a certified fitness instructor at the Needham YMCA. Lisa has three children, all of whom have experienced summer fun at DCD Camp.

Mike St. Bernard, Assistant Director-Upper Camp

Mike joined the Dedham Country Day Camp Staff in 2015 as the head of our Sports Program.  Throughout the year Mike works teaching Juniors and Seniors at a local high school. His favorite activity to play at camp is soccer and he can't wait to spend the summer playing some more great games.

Megan Saia,  Assistant Director-Lower Camp

Megan has been working at DCDC longer then anyone else.  With the exception of last year when she was off for Maternity Leave, Megan has worked as nearly every position the camp has to offer.  She started as a CIT and worked her way up to a Head Counselor. She's also worked as many Specialists including, Cooking, Nature, and Arts & Crafts.  In the summer of 2014 Megan was the Assistant Director of Lower Camp. Megan has her Masters in Early Childhood Education and during the winter months works at Dedham Country Day School.  We are excited to have Megan back at camp this year!

DCDC Counselors

Our counselors range in age from 16 to 55, though typically counselors are college juniors and seniors. We also have college graduates, young teachers, and veteran teachers on our staff. Most of our counselors have worked their way up in the DCD Camp ranks from being a Counselor-in-Training when they are entering 10th Grade, to being Head Counselors when they are in college.  Historically, more than half of our counselors are DCD graduates who come back summer after summer. Activity Specialists (Archery, Woodworking, etc)  tend to be older, and have special certifications.

All DCD Camp Staff members must submit personal reference, as well as CORI and SORI screening before being hired. Parents have the right to review our background checks, health care, discipline and grievance  procedures upon request.

Pool Staff

Lifeguards and Swim Instructors are required to be certified by the American Red Cross and have First Aid/CPR/AED Training.

The average number of campers per day is between 75 and 110, while the average group size is between 8 and 14.  Our counselor to camper ratios are 1:5 for children 3.5-6 years old; 1:7 for children 7 years old - entering 7th grade and for special needs campers the ratios are 1:4 for children with mild needs and a ratio of 1:2 for campers with severe needs.  These are the minimum ratios we will have and often exceed those ratios.

Some campers are outgoing and energetic, while others are shy and reluctant.  Our counselors can insure that each child, regardless of disposition, learns and grows from the DCDC experience.  Parents remark that they love the intimate feeling on campus and are surprised when all the counselors know all of the campers by name, even those who are not in their groups!
