My favorite thing about DCD is the warm, welcoming energy that greets me every morning when I come through the door.
Prior to coming to teach at DCDS, I have taught life sciences at the college level for the last 3 years. Using a social and emotional learning framework, I implement active learning techniques in my classroom that are aimed to strengthen students scientific knowledge, as well as their interpersonal and intrapersonal skills. My passion is inclusive biology education, to which, I have applied for a PhD program in order to advance my knowledge and skills as a biology educator. My master’s thesis focused on how neurodivergence impacts undergraduate STEM students in an active learning environment, and specifically sought to identify the aspects of active learning that alleviate and/or exacerbate emotional distress and symptomology in the neurodivergent.
