Fifth graders brought The Odyssey to life in a dramatic retelling of Homer’s epic tale of Odysseus’ long journey home after the Trojan War yesterday afternoon, in front of fellow students, parents and faculty.
Adorned with tunics and wreaths, students performed memorable scenes featuring Poseidon, the Cyclops Polyphemus, Circe, Zeus, and other figures from Greek mythology. The annual Odyssey Storytelling Project is a highlight of Grade 5’s study of ancient Greece.
After listening to Odds Bodkin’s narration of The Odyssey, students took notes, sketched key moments, and independently prepared dramatic monologues. Through memorization, narration, and performance, they developed a deep understanding of the epic and its enduring characters. They put on fabulous performances, and then to celebrate their hard work, students, faculty and parents enjoyed a wonderful selection of Greek specialties!
Congratulations to our fifth graders!
