Financial Aid Policy

The School has long had a policy that the expense of attending DCD should not deter any family from applying. To that end, a substantial program of need-based financial aid grants is available to all applicants. The School believes and supports the premise that an economically diverse student body has a positive impact on all children in the DCD community.

Awards are subject to the following financial aid policies:

• Financial aid awards are based on family need, not on a child's academic, athletic, or artistic performance.

• All financial information and awards are kept strictly confidential. An application for financial aid has no bearing on the Admissions Committee’s decision of whether or not to accept a child.

• Awards are made for one year only. Families who desire to continue receiving aid must apply annually.

• A family that has not settled its obligation for the current year will not be eligible to receive an award for the following year.

• To receive an award, a family must complete all required paperwork and submit a copy of the current year’s
1040 tax forms with all schedules. This paperwork will be examined to verify that the family is using all available resources to pay for the cost of education. An award will not subsidize discretionary expenses such as those related to a business venture or lifestyle. Neither will it subsidize a parental choice not to work if there are no dependents at home during the school day.

• First priority in making awards is given to enrolled students already receiving aid. Second priority is given to enrolled students not currently receiving aid. Third priority is given to children admitted for the next school year, with preference given to a family’s second child who will be concurrently enrolled with the first, and to families whose children will diversify the student body.

• In those cases when parents are not living together, the resources of both the non-custodial and custodial parent will be considered in establishing the family's level of need.
